Over the past few weeks, I spent a handful of mornings at my 2014 playground to photograph the flowering heather. I timed my choice of mornings to coincide with the best weather conditions possible. That means flowering heather, mist and possibly some high clouds. The only time I experienced all three at the same time, it lasted for a whole 2 minutes. The result can be seen in a previous blog. My other attempts all featured mist and flowering heather, but the colored clouds never materialized again. Most of the time, the sky was completely cloudfree, making for rather bland images. I resorted to taking closeups and more abstract images. Which isn’t even a bad thing, as it makes for a more intesting portfolio. Only pink skies and misty landscapes could get boring to the viewer very quickly. All in all, I am happy with this years heather portfolio. Here is one from a viewpoint that I have visited dozens of times since last February when I first came across this area. I like how the two heather bushes and the ridge lead the eye towards the larger tree and the lone cloud above it.
De afgelopen weken heb ik al mijn vrije ochtenden besteed aan het fotograferen van de bloeiende heide. Uiteraard probeerde ik te gaan wanneer de voorspellingen het gunstigst waren: behalve bloeiende heide betekent dat mist en hoge bewolking. Slechts een enkele keer viel alles op zijn plek, al duurde het maar twee minuten. Het resultaat staat in een vorig blog. Alle andere keren was het wel mistig, maar ontbraken de wolken. Gevolg: fletse luchten. Op zo’n moment is het zaak om te schakelen en bijvoorbeeld closeups of abstracten te fotograferen. Sowieso maakt dat een gevarieerder portfolio, dat de aandacht van de kijker langer zal vasthouden dan een verzameling roze luchten met mist. Alles bij elkaar genomen ben ik tevreden met de opbrengst voor dit heideseizoen. Bovenstaand een foto genomen vanaf een punt dat ik wel tientallen keren heb bezocht sinds ik in februari dit gebied voor het eerst verkende. De manier waarop de twee heidestruiken en de heuvelrug het oog naar de grote den en de eenzame wolk leiden bevalt me wel.
