Today marks three months of active absence from the world wide web. A combination of finding myself in not the best phase of my life and an accute tiredness with the (lacking) essence of FB and the attitude (as it appeared to me) of the nature photo community as a whole made me decide to keep some distance for a while. I can encourage everyone to try it, since I can honestly say it has been worthwhile to step back and evaluate the things you think are important in life. Believe it or not, FB is not one of them. Decisions have been made, changes and transitions are in process and I look forward to what’s to come. So here I am, back in this crevice of the world wide web that is called nature photography. Never again as active as before, but with renewed energy, plans and ideas. Above is a visual representation of all of this: me, an inconspicuous common bird, floating in near darkness, frantically trying to find out where that bit of light is coming from. Seems I found it.
Vandaag op de kop af ben ik 3 maanden afwezig op het internet, althans actief. Een combinatie van een wat mindere levensfase, acute Facebook moeheid en moeite met hoe het natuurfotowereldje in mijn ogen in elkaar steekt, maakten dat ik even een stapje terug moest doen. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden, ik vond het zeer de moeite waard om even afstand te nemen en te bedenken wat er nu echt toe doet in het leven. Gek genoeg maakt onder meer Facebook daar geen deel van uit. Ik heb keuzes gemaakt en veranderingen (worden) doorgevoerd en ik kijk uit naar wat de toekomst brengt. In elk geval hier mijn eerste voorzichtige stapjes terug in de krocht van het internet genaamd natuurfotografie. Zo actief als voorheen zal ik nooit meer zijn, maar plannen, ideeën en energie zijn weer bijgevuld. De bovenstaande foto illustreert het voorgaande: ik ben dat onopvallende, doodgewone vogeltje dat in een boze, donkere wereld rondzwemt, als een razende op zoek naar waar dat beetje licht toch vandaan komt.
